History Brief:
This was part of Potatuck country known as Shepaug. Settlements began in 1713 at Upper (from Southbury) Farms and Lower Farms. Winter privileges were granted in 1731. The southern part was became the Parish of Roxbury in May 1743. In October 1796 the Parish of Roxbury was incorporated as the town of Roxbury. Town vital records begin 1848. Barbour collection records cover 1796-1835.
