History
Brief:
Settled as part of Killingworth, this section was called Hammonasset. In 1663, the General Court ruled that it did not belong to Saybrook. In 1665, the Court set the boundaries with Saybrook and changed the name of Hammonasset to Kenilworth. In 1838 the General Assembly set off the town of Clinton and renamed the remainder of the town, Clinton. Town vital records begin 1838. Barbour collection records cover 1838-54.
