History
Brief: |
This was part of the Western Lands (Goshen, Colebrook, Kent, Hartland, Norfolk, Canaan, Cornwall, Salisbury, Sharon, Torrington, Barkhamsted, Harwinton, Winchester and New Hartford) made over to Hartford and Windsor in 1686 to save them from being taken by the Royal Gov. Andros. Settlement here did not begin until 1765 when rights were sold by Hartford under a joint agreement with Windsor. Colebrook was named in 1732 and incorporated as a town in 1779. Town vital records begin 1779. Barbour collection records cover 1779-1810. |
