Ashford, in northeastern CT, lies on land purchased from the Indians by Major Fitch in 1684. The Indian name for the place was Wabbaquassett. The South part was laid out by John Cushing and David Jacob of Scituate, MA in 1707 and named the plantation of New Scituate. The Society of New Scituate became a town in 1714 and was named Ashford. Town Birth records begin 1675, Marriage records in 1714 and Death records 1698. Probate records in June 1830. Probate records from 1772 to 1830 are in the Pomfret Probate Office.
