History Brief:
Attawanhood, the third son of Uncas, bequeathed this land, called Wangumbaug, to Hartford. In May 1706, the General Assembly authorized a township to be laid out and settlement began in 1709. In October 1711, it was named the town of Coventry. Town vital records begin 1712.
