History Brief:
Avon lies about 10 miles northwest of Hartford in the Tunxis valley. It was first settled in 1645 as part of Farmington. It established as the Ecclesiastical Society of Northington in May 1750. Avon was incorporated as a separate town in 1830. Town vital records begin in 1869. Earlier records are in Farmington. Barbour collection records cover 1830-51.
