History
Brief: |
This was originally the part of Hartford lying on the eastern side of the Connecticut River. This area was home of the Podunk Indians whose Sachem, Wahginnacut, traveled to Boston and Plymouth in 1631 to invite white men to come and settle and protect the Podunks from their enemies. Portions of this area were also known as the Three Mile Tract, Podunk and Hoccanum. East Hartford was incorporated as a town in October 1783. Town vital records begin 1700s. Barbour collection records cover 1783-1853. |
