History
Brief: |
On 5 August 1644, Thomas Gregson of New Haven received a grant of 133 acres here at Solitary Cove. An iron works was established at Great Pond in 1657 and the local settlement was referred to as Iron Works Village. The Court of 1667 granted the liberties of a village, a very unusual designation. In May 1680 the Court granted the right to set up a Society. East Haven was incorporated as a town distinct from New Haven in May 1785. Town vital records begin 1906. Barbour collection records cover 1700-1852. |
