Attawanhood, the third son of Uncas, died in May 1676, and he made several bequests of land. One of these was a large tract on the Unguoshot (Blackledge) River left to a group called the Saybrook Legatees. The Court issued them a patent in 1687 and appointed a committee to lay out the land in 1699. Settlers began to come from Windsor about 1704 and on 26 May 1708, the General Assembly granted the privileges of a town to Hebron. Town vital records begin 1708. Barbour collection records cover 1708-1854.
